Winning the Game of Reselling: A Guide Through Clearing Out Your Collection

Reselling can be a tricky game to master, and many collectors find themselves asking, “How do I win?” With a growing number of bags in my collection, I’ve realized that maintaining about a dozen bags works best for my lifestyle. I’ve learned through experience that a closet cleanout a couple times a year is essential for proper storage and maintaining the functionality of my bags.

However, as I start the process of decluttering, the question arises: What is the best method to sell my bags? Should I go through the legwork of selling on sites like eBay and Poshmark, or opt to send them to popular resale platforms like Fashionphile, Rebag, or The RealReal? While Fashionphile and Rebag offer outright payment, The RealReal works on consignment, making the process longer. Choosing between getting paid out or consigning can be confusing, and often the goal is to profit as much as possible.

A recent experience selling my old Chloé Marcie Bag left me with less profit than I had expected when I chose to consign with The RealReal. Now, with the selling process beginning anew, I am left pondering which method to choose.

As you navigate through the world of bag reselling, what approach do you prefer: to consign or opt for a direct payout? Let’s discuss!
