I have a tendency to alternate between using different bags and becoming fixated on one because of its functionality. Although I own numerous bags, I keep coming back to the ones that work best for me. Lately, if you’ve seen me out and about, you’ve probably noticed my new Gucci Diana Small Shoulder Bag. While this isn’t my first Gucci Diana bag, it is a new version that has an east-west shape, and I want to explain why this particular shape suits me perfectly. Take a look at our Purseonals reviews to see how my beautiful pink Gucci bag fares!

When I first laid eyes on the updated 2021 revival of the Gucci Diana, I instantly knew it was meant for me. The original version had a square shape, and I also own and adore the more casual Hobo version. However, this small east-west iteration really caught my attention. The design incorporates the iconic Gucci elements that have always appealed to me, starting with the bamboo double-top handles. Even though I’m not typically drawn to pink, the pink leather of this bag spoke to me on a deeper level. Perhaps it’s because I don’t own many pink bags, but this shade of pink is just right – feminine yet wearable. You’ll also find other recognizable Gucci features, such as the Double G hardware and the decorative leather belts that playfully reference the bands used to maintain the shape of the bamboo handles. Another feature that I truly love about this bag is its detachable and adjustable leather shoulder strap, as well as its detachable chain shoulder strap, which adds a touch of sophistication.

What I appreciate the most about this bag is its east-west design. Many of my other bags have a more square shape, but this design perfectly complements my overall aesthetic.

In terms of usability and functionality, I’ve had friends comment on how the shape of this bag makes more sense, and I wholeheartedly agree. At this stage of my life, I don’t need to carry around a lot of kids’ items, so the east-west aspect of this bag is ideal for carrying just my phone and essentials. It’s not too deep, making it easy to reach in and find what I need. While I usually prefer larger bags, I’ve come to realize that carrying a big bag often means dealing with a lot of empty space most of the time. Therefore, this smaller size is more practical for me. However, I do have mixed feelings about the closure. The flap closure with a magnetic tab prevents the bag from being completely open at the top, which provides a certain level of security. However, I find the tab a bit cumbersome to open whenever I need to retrieve items from the bag. It’s a bit of a trade-off, as I want my belongings to be secure but also want easy access to them. Despite this, I find the bag overall very user-friendly. Its design is simple, yet sophisticated, and I particularly appreciate the various straps. The adjustable leather strap allows for versatility, and I have even found myself carrying the bag by the bamboo top handles. With the different ways it can be carried, this bag can easily transform and enhance any outfit.

Gucci has always been a brand I trust for its quality and craftsmanship. I continue to choose Gucci precisely because of its reliable construction, and this bag is no exception. From the bamboo handles to the leather and stitching, every aspect of this bag is made beautifully without any visible flaws. As bag prices continue to rise, I want to ensure that the bags I invest in are of the highest quality, and this Gucci Diana bag has not disappointed me in that regard.

In terms of price and value, it’s difficult to make a direct comparison given the current inflation in the bag market. However, at $3,500, I believe this particular version of the Gucci Diana is fairly priced. When the square version was reintroduced in 2021, it was priced just under $4,000 for the larger size. Considering that this smaller size is being sold two years later, the price seems reasonable.

While changes are occurring at Gucci, this bag embodies several key elements that are integral to the brand. Sabato De Sarno’s first collection for Gucci was filled with archival references, which gives this bag a timeless appeal. Although black and brown would have made it even more timeless, it was the pink option that truly captured my heart.

Overall, I fell head over heels for this bag as soon as I saw it on Gucci.com and held it in my arms. There’s something truly special about it – a bag that allows me to feel connected to the brand’s history while still possessing a modern twist. The pink color is perfect for my life in South Florida, and the shape has proven to be more practical than I initially expected. The true winning aspect of this bag is that the Diana line is a standout collection for Gucci, and I don’t anticipate it disappearing anytime soon.
