The 2000s was an incredible era for handbag enthusiasts. It was the pinnacle of the It-bag period, with designers consistently creating hit after hit. Among the bags that have achieved iconic status from that time, the Balenciaga City immediately stands out.

Few bags attain the coveted IT status, but the original Balenciaga Le City Bag, first introduced in 2000 by Nicholas Ghesquiere, remains a timeless classic. Balenciaga is celebrating its resurgence this season with a new campaign created and photographed by the talented duo Inez & Vinoodh.

Delving into the archives to revive a 2000s classic in all its glory, the 2024 Le City is meticulously crafted from Arena leather. It incorporates various stylistic elements that were fundamental to 2000s fashion, such as original studding, laced zipper pulls, and lacquered leather handles and straps.

The campaign features the presence of Kim Kardashian, the House’s latest brand ambassador, along with model Paloma Elsesser, stylist Patricia Field, and others. Each individual is captured in vast spaces designed to resemble their own closets, filled with an assortment of Balenciaga items.

While the campaign aims to celebrate the return of the original Le City, it also highlights other brand signatures such as the Hourglass and the Le Cagole.
