In the early 2000s, the Dior Saddle Bag was a popular fashion accessory. I vividly remember the summer of 2003, just before my 8th-grade year, when I decided that I had to have one. Initially, I tried persuading my mother, and when that didn’t work, I took on a job as an assistant counselor at a summer day camp to save every penny.
My ultimate dream was to own the iconic Dior Saddle Flap Bag, featuring the Dior Oblique Monogram print and ornate gold ‘CD’ hardware. Sadly, it was financially out of reach for me, so I settled for the mini version, a Dior Diorissimo Saddle Pochette.
Towards the end of the year, my mom drove me to the nearby Dior Boutique with $350 plus tax in hand. There, I purchased my very first designer bag, and it marked the beginning of a cherished collection.
Over two decades later, that bag and my Louis Vuitton Speedy 25 remain timeless and irreplaceable pieces in my collection. I’ve bought and sold many others, reflecting changes in my personal style over the years. Once keen on only purchasing Louis Vuitton bags, I then expanded my focus to include luxury brands. I recall a phase inspired by Sienna Miller’s Boho style, which led to me parting ways with three Chloe bags.
Today, I choose to buy bags that resonate with my personal style, inspired by what brings me joy. While some may have a classic appeal, others simply speak to me in their own unique way. Each bag in my collection holds a special memory, a piece of my history.
Do you still have your first bag? Which bags in your collection hold the most sentimental value?
